    Mission statement:
Empowering Change for a Sustainable Future, Inspiring Smiles at the Summit.

Our mission is to drive transformative change that paves the way for a sustainable future world. With an unwavering commitment to success, we take joy in reaching the summit of our endeavors.

We believe that by embracing sustainability and navigating the challenges that lie ahead, we can make a profound impact. Our ultimate goal is to create a world where each change contributes to a brighter future, leaving a lasting smile of accomplishment on our faces.

    Vision:
We envision organizations embracing a sustainable future through continual change, constantly improving and innovating their products and services. By doing so, these organizations provide essential value to our planet – a value that is not only relevant today but also beneficial for future generations.

    Core values:

    Deliberation:

Change is ubiquitous, encompassing not only our organizations and environment but also the very essence of nature, particularly evident in the majestic mountains. I am awestruck by the gradual formation of mountain landscapes, as glaciers methodically and relentlessly carve their path, propelled by their immense power.

    Unyielding:

Organizational changes driven by a clear purpose are equally potent and unstoppable. While some changes may initially appear to falter, rest assured, they will eventually take root. Similar to nature’s transformations, organizational changes demand both patience and sustained commitment. Just as glaciers relentlessly alter their course, I firmly believe that organizations have the ability to adapt incrementally each day, moving steadfastly towards their desired objectives.

    Passion:

I possess an unwavering enthusiasm for Agile & Lean methodologies, as well as a deep-rooted commitment to driving value through continuous improvement. For me, Agile & Lean is not merely an endpoint, but rather a robust approach and mindset that fosters ongoing enhancement and the creation of customer value. Change must inspire individuals, empowering them to discover optimal solutions. After all, without purpose, why pursue change?

    Consistency:

By maintaining a consistent and measured pace, one can ascend more swiftly and securely. The same principle applies to implementing change. Through steady progress, teams are empowered to deliver the desired outcomes efficiently, minimizing rework and maximizing value within a shorter timeframe.

Who I am

With over 15 years of mountaineering experience alongside my companions, I have discovered a profound source of inspiration in the mountains. They have instilled in me the drive to surpass limits, relish in the environment, share laughter, remain vigilant, and consistently prioritize safety.

Over the course of more than 20 years, I have been actively involved in innovation-driven and transitional environments, continuously fortifying my expertise and knowledge. I possess a comprehensive understanding of Lean, Six Sigma, and, naturally, Agile and scaling Agile methodologies. Through collaboration with diverse industries including Energy, Telecom, Banks, Manufacturing, and Retail, I have acquired valuable experiences and insights.

As an organizational consultant, my role entails guiding and facilitating transformative changes within organizations. However, I recognize that this task is far from straightforward. Often, requests for assistance and change lack specificity. Clients may seek improvements in outcomes, accelerated delivery speeds, or enhanced product quality. In such cases, my approach involves visualizing processes, establishing shared Definitions of Done with teams, coaching on behavioral aspects, implementing structural frameworks, or even streamlining organizational structures.

What I do

My expertise lies in orchestrating transformative change by assembling a motivated team of change agents who are well-prepared, and equipped to navigate the necessary adjustments that arise each day. In essence, I lead expeditions toward achieving change objectives.

To enact meaningful change that leaves a lasting impact, I leverage the diverse range of experiences and skills contained within my metaphorical backpack. Within this repository, I have amalgamated my knowledge gained from various domains, including mountaineering, Agile & Lean methodologies (Agility), transformations, coaching, training, and consulting.

Backpack – experience

My backpack encapsulates the wealth of experience I have acquired over time. I have learned from both successes and failures, having operated within diverse environments and collaborated with individuals from all walks of life. With this vast knowledge, I am equipped to assist you in addressing organizational challenges, goals, issues, and aspirations, ultimately aiming to help you submit your objectives. I offer guidance and draw upon my experiences to facilitate your journey.

Each day brings new opportunities for learning and growth, and I embrace this perpetual journey of knowledge acquisition and refinement.

    Carabine – safety

A carabiner is an essential tool that I always carry when venturing into the mountains. It is a metal loop equipped with a gate, extensively utilized in rock climbing for securing a freely moving rope, creating safety anchors, attaching safety gear to bolts or other equipment, and swiftly fastening to a climbing harness. In climbing, carabiners are indispensable for a multitude of purposes.

    Engaging and Interactive Approach:

I employ mountain stories, exercises, and metaphors to inspire employees and leaders, offering both encouragement and challenges in a sensitive manner.

    Practical Workshops in Interactive Environments:

Through interactive workshops conducted in climbing environments or on artificial climbing walls, I combine theory and practice, creating an immersive learning experience.

Team Session Programs in Adventurous Environments:

I design team session programs set in mountainous or adventurous environments, fostering a sense of camaraderie, fun, team building, patience, and personal growth.

Coaching for Various Teams and Individuals:

I provide coaching for individuals and teams spanning a diverse range, including scrum teams, agile teams, kanban teams, management teams, korfball teams, and soccer teams.

    Creativity and Adaptability:

Each session is crafted to be unique and tailored to specific needs, while keeping the overall goal in sight.

Coaching for Lean and Agile Transformation:

I excel in coaching lean and agile practitioners, understanding their language and inspiring them to embrace agility further, ultimately cultivating a more agile organization.

    Exemplary Behavior and Adaptability:

I prioritize open and honest communication, readily admitting when experiments do not yield the desired outcomes. I emphasize the importance of embracing alternative approaches, emphasizing that saying “no” is not a failure but an opportunity to explore alternative paths.

    Rope – Connection and collaboration

One of the indispensable tools in the mountains is a rope. It serves as a vital connection during climbing, whether ascending or descending the mountain or safely navigating a glacier. The rope symbolizes unity and collaboration, whether within a team or across value streams.

You can rely on me to:

    • Motivate individuals to embrace change, gradually embedding the change within their DNA.
    • Instill a change-oriented DNA, fostering a culture where teams proactively take action rather than waiting for directives. This extends to encompass HR tasks and 360-degree feedback processes.
    • Cultivate a growth mindset, guiding individuals from a fixed mindset to one that embraces growth and continuous improvement.
    • Foster intrinsic motivation among employees through the application of organizational behavior management principles.
    • Provide leadership coaching, empowering leaders to steer their organizations in the right direction, choose suitable challenges, and climb mountains with their teams. This includes preparing leaders to remain composed in unexpected situations and take appropriate action as needed.

Axe – Crisis management and growth

An axe is an indispensable tool that can be a lifesaver in challenging situations. Losing the axe necessitates calling for a helicopter rescue. In the context of organizational change, the people themselves are the axe. Change cannot be achieved without their involvement and commitment. Otherwise, external assistance may be required.

You can rely on me to:

    • Facilitate crisis sessions, encouraging collaborative problem-solving and generating creative breakthroughs to resolve critical challenges.
    • Engage in discussions and consultations regarding change and transformation with management and board members.
    • Provide coaching to individuals and teams, focusing on their growth and development.
    • Deliver one-on-one coaching and team coaching sessions.
    • Facilitate improvement sessions to drive positive change.

    Compass – Metrics and direction

Trusting what we see is crucial, but what do we do when faced with foggy conditions? In such situations, the compass becomes our guide, offering reliable metrics to assess our progress and determine if we are still on the right track.

You can rely on me to:
    • Utilize a range of metrics to measure performance and provide direction, emphasizing the importance of trusting the numbers and their implications. These metrics serve as a moment of reflection to ensure alignment with the overall goals.
    • Conduct presentations and training sessions on utilizing metrics effectively.
    • Set up, facilitate, and coach performance walls, employing the Obeya methodology for visualizing progress and fostering transparency.
    • Provide direction through the Approach Waves Transformation methodology, which encompasses both short-term and long-term planning, utilizing policy deployment techniques.
    • Leverage statistical analysis and the power of Six Sigma to enhance decision-making and optimize processes.

Map – Strategy and customer journey

Agile and Lean methodologies focus on setting goals and charting a path to reach them. However, it is equally essential to consider the customer’s journey and their evolving needs when designing strategies.

You can rely on me to:

    • Identify the most suitable framework to align with organizational objectives and maximize effectiveness.
    • Prepare your organization for Agile ways of working, ensuring a smooth transition and adoption.
    • Foster agility by incorporating Lean and Agile philosophies, placing emphasis on mindset (values), leadership (true north), way of working (framework), and organizational structure (perfect fit/ecosystem).

    Shoes/Boots – The process

    My approach

Drawing upon my extensive experience in mountains and expertise in Agile and Lean methodologies across diverse work environments, I establish a robust change environment tailored to meet the specific needs of organizations.

Preparation: I lay the foundation for change by assembling a motivated team of employees (expedition) who possess the ambition to achieve the organizational summit and tackle the most significant challenges.

Execution: During the journey, I provide guidance and ensure the expedition teams reach the summit safely. This involves enhancing team performance, optimizing value streams, and implementing agile ways of working. Simultaneously, I remain mindful of the current behavior and the desired future state. My aim is to cultivate a future organization with a sustainable, flexible, and adaptable culture. This entails fostering a growth mindset among individuals and facilitating a learning culture that embraces failures as opportunities for growth. Additionally, I guide the organization in setting ambitious goals and maintaining an unwavering focus on reaching their desired summit independently, without constant guidance.

Response to Client Requests: When clients seek assistance, I prioritize delivering impactful quick wins through targeted actions. These initial actions serve as stepping stones, gradually unveiling the broader picture. Together with the client, I collaboratively develop an approach for the upcoming phases, ensuring alignment and continued progress.

Post-Summit: Upon successfully reaching the summit and celebrating the achievement, I shift focus to securing the newfound path, enabling the organization to navigate it independently. This involves consolidating the gains made and ensuring the sustained adoption of new ways of working.

How I do it

Through the mix of experience, I have with mountains, Agile & Lean in all kinds of different work environments I define a change environment that is strong enough the change the organisation according to their needs.

Before I prepare a change environment with motivated employees (expedition) that have ambition to realize the organisational summit and challenge the biggest impediments.

During I guide the expedition teams safely to the summit. Improving team performance, optimize a value stream, implement an agile way of working. But always aware of the behaviour now and what should be. A future organisation with a culture that is sustainable, flexible, and adaptable. A future with people that has a growth mindset and learn from their failures. A future with an organisation that always select ambitious goals and fully focused to the summit they want to achieve alone without guide. The request for help usually includes a first quick targeted action with impact. After some weeks, the big picture will emerge. And together with the client I make an approach for the coming period.

After the expedition and finalising the summit, it is time for celebration but also time to secure the route save home and enjoy and maintain the new way of working all by themselves.

Professional background

With a professional tenure spanning over 20 years, I have actively operated within innovation-driven environments and transitional contexts, consistently enhancing my expertise and knowledge. I possess a comprehensive understanding of Lean, Six Sigma, and, naturally, Agile methodologies, including scaling Agile practices. Throughout my career, I have collaborated with professionals across diverse industries such as Energy, Telecom, Banking, Manufacturing, and Retail, enriching my experience further.

Mountaineering Experience:

For more than 15 years, I have engaged in mountaineering expeditions with my companions. The mountains provide me with the motivation to surpass ordinary limits, appreciate the surrounding environment, find moments of joy, and uphold an unwavering commitment to safety protocols. Prior to embarking on each journey, meticulous planning is undertaken to determine the most suitable route and strategies for reaching the summit. While the ultimate goal is to conquer the peak and savor the breathtaking views, I also meticulously evaluate potential hazards and identify crucial points of decision-making, including assessing the “point of no return.”

In unforeseen circumstances or vulnerable situations, my resourcefulness comes to the forefront as I creatively devise solutions that align with established safety standards. Since weather conditions can be unpredictable, I maintain composure and adaptability, relying on my compass or temporarily selecting alternative safe routes to navigate through challenges. Even after the exhilaration of achieving the summit, I remain focused and diligent, ensuring a safe descent for the entire team.

Transferring Skills and Mindset:

The challenges, enjoyment, and energy I derive from mountaineering translate into my professional practice. I harness these qualities in my work, applying the same level of determination, appreciation for the journey, and adaptability when tackling business-related endeavors.
